The work of fashion designer Gary Symor is reminiscent of the transparency of mathematical beauty that one can find in the philosophy of architecture. His vision is a symbiosis between sensuality and technology. The combination of Gary’s Surinamese roots with his respect for technology, industrial design and architecture creates a unique and infectious blend that exudes rhythm, vibrancy and inventiveness.
His passion for technical innovations, spatial developments and sustainable (r)evolution can be linked to his great social awareness, helpfulness, care and commitment to making the world a better place.
Symor was born in 1971 in Paramaribo. He studied mechanical engineering in Surinam.
In 1998 he decided to go to the Netherlands to further research and develop his talents and interests. He worked for Moooi Boutique, Adlicious, Refinity, restaurant Bridges, Marcel Wanders and Kathryn Milan, among others.
In between he creates his own collections where he makes optimal use of ecologically sound and sustainable materials and techniques.
His eye for the human form, future and fairness is a definition of his strength as a designer and himself.
Currently Gary Symor is developing a pattern cutting university. Where #smarthands will be trained to approach the fashion industry with a sustainable and innovative mindset. This university will be based in Amsterdam. And wil start in September 2021.
